Abstract

Diabetes mellitus requires continuous management to prevent complications, yet some patients in Dufa-Dufa Village, Ternate City, have limited access to comprehensive health education. This community service activity aimed to improve patients’ knowledge of diabetes mellitus and its complications through education accompanied by blood glucose and uric acid screening. The activity involved 50 patients with diabetes mellitus and was conducted through preparation and coordination, pre-test, health education using presentations and leaflets, post-test, and point-of-care testing (POCT) for blood glucose and uric acid. The results showed an increase in the mean knowledge score from 5.64 ± 1.84 before education to 9.04 ± 1.81 after education, with a mean increase of 3.40 points. The proportion of participants with very good knowledge increased from 14% to 74%. Blood glucose was elevated in 74% of participants, while 44% had elevated uric acid levels. The activity improved participants’ knowledge and supported early health screening.
