Abstract

Background: Preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication that can threaten the lives of both mothers and fetuses. Knowledge of risk factors, warning signs, and the importance of early detection is essential to support appropriate health-seeking behavior. Video-based education is one of the health education media that can help improve public understanding of preeclampsia. Objective: To describe participants’ characteristics and their level of knowledge regarding severe preeclampsia (PEB) in a community service program involving women of reproductive age and pregnant women. Methods: This community service program involved 34 respondents, consisting of non-pregnant women of reproductive age and pregnant women. The available data were analyzed descriptively using frequency distributions and percentages based on target group, age, educational level, pregnancy history, previous exposure to information about PEB, and level of knowledge. Data on pre- and post-education knowledge assessments were not available; therefore, the effectiveness of the intervention could not be quantitatively evaluated. Results: Of the 34 respondents, 26 (76.47%) were non-pregnant women of reproductive age, while 8 (23.53%) were pregnant women. The largest age group was 20–29 years, comprising 13 respondents (38.24%). The most common educational level was senior high school, reported by 12 respondents (35.29%). Eighteen respondents (52.94%) had a previous pregnancy history. Most respondents, 21 (61.76%), had never received information about PEB. Regarding knowledge levels, 14 respondents (41.18%) demonstrated a moderate level of knowledge, 11 (32.35%) had a good level of knowledge, and 9 (26.47%) had a poor level of knowledge. Conclusion: Most respondents had never received information about PEB, and the most common knowledge level was moderate. These findings indicate the need for continuous health education on the risk factors, warning signs, and early detection of preeclampsia. Future programs should incorporate pre- and post-education assessments to evaluate changes in knowledge and support the assessment of the effectiveness of video-based education.
